Two years ago when Veronica asked if she could get into acting I was surprised to say the least. My introverted daughter wanted to act? This was not going to be pleasant.
She managed to get an audition with a local agency. Not for a part but for the agent to see if she was acting material. She got her script and memorized her lines. Veronica gives 110% in everything she does so she was sure she would be prepared for the audition well in advance.
The audition went well but the agent felt that because she had no experience and would be competing against kids who had been acting for most of their lives she didn't stand a chance. This dashed her hopes but not for long. I suggested that when she was a little older like fifteen she could try modeling. She liked that idea and let it go, for a little while anyway.
Last September when she was on vacation with her dad and brother in Seattle she was scouted by a model and actor management company. Being 5'9" at the time and stunning there's no wonder she was scouted. She was 13 and had just had her birthmark removed in July so her self confidence was as tall as she was.
We made the trip to Seattle at the beginning of October and after a four hour presentation were sent on our way along with the other thirty or so girls with a promise that someone would get back to us. They did and they wanted Veronica. They also wanted $2,400.00 for pictures. What a joke. There was no way I was going to try to afford that.
Veronica and I discussed it and we decided to try our hand with local agents. Enter Charles Stuart International Models. Veronica was signed at our first meeting, obviously Charles saw her potential. She was invited to attend his Faces West Model and Talent Conference something he's done for the past 18 years and the same event Coco Rocha used to attend when Charles first discovered her. She comes back every year to help out and present awards. One of which Veronica won. First Runner Up for the Photography competition. Not bad for having only signed three weeks prior.
That was in November 2010. It's now May 2011 and Veronica is officially 5'10". She participated at Vancouver Fashion Week modeling for seven designers. She's participated in a subsequent fashion show for one of the designers, Sarah Runnells who also had her shoot her look book for her website of her entire Fall/Winter collection. She's shot with Ben Kwan for a hair competition as well as a series for her portfolio. She's shot an Internet catalogue for Sasso Moda, a down town store. She will be modeling for Christopher Choi a Korean designer this coming May 31st.
She busy, therefore I'm busy. This is good though because the more she does the more exposure and experience she will get. After Faces West and finding out she wouldn't be able to go to Europe until she's at least 16 we resigned ourselves to the year and next to be used to build her portfolio and experience. To make important connections in the industry and make sure when she does go to Europe and that will happen, that she's 110% ready.
Her agent called me the other day to say that the Paris agent that came to see some of Charles' models including Veronica thought the only girl out of all the models she saw, while still too young, the only one with potential was Veronica. That was huge! It was confirmation that yes this is the right place for her. She is set to be successful. Everyone who has worked with her has said the same thing. She has what they (the industry) are looking for. And she has a great attitude about it all.
So as a journal of sorts and following of her blossoming career I will be following Veronica, quite literally through the next few years, recording as much as I can and one day when she's a super model, and that day will come. She will have this record of her humble beginnings.
